GermanyTraveled to while it was still east and west We walked around in the pedestrian section and the castle. We had some choclate cake and tea for an afternoon snack. Outstanding zoo. The new architecture that has sprung up in the former 'no man's land' is abosolutely amazing. Pergamon museum was as close as I will probably ever get to ancient Pergamon. I visited Rahm for a little over a week in April of 2003. Most of the time was spent in his city and on his base. It's a nice little city with one main street with many shops, bars and restaurants. At one end of the city there is a complete castle and at the other is Ray Barracks. There is a colorful church located on top of a hill and partially connected to a castle. The AltStadt has some very interesting half timber houses and one of them had some very peculiar red statues on it's side. Rahm drove us to Heidleburg, about 2 hours south of Friedburg. Rahm drove us up a mountain with some really nice 120 degree turns. Rahm drove us up to the Castle and I parallel parked the car. It was cold, especially in the shade, low 40s. We walked around the castle and then purchased tickets for a tour when we entered it. The tour was quite interesting. We learned the most recent damage was caused by a lightning bolt that started a fire that took several days to put out. The king though parties in the main hall where people drank liters of wine. The wine they drank came from a taxed percentage of the wine vineyard of the people. This wine the people gave usually was not of their good stock and we canÕt even image what a mixture of all these wines would taste like. These wines were stored ina giant keg in the lower level of the castle. I drove us down to the main level of the city where we parked and proceeded on foot into the pedestrain area of the old city. We decided that our lucnh should be a large meal so we found a tavern and had some steaks and beer. It was a rustic small little tavern on the street level. It had a small bar and few tables. We sat aorund and talked for long time and watched the scenerey. We bought some shot glasses as the temperature fell even more. We then couldnÕt find a bathroom so we decided to go back to the bar and figured it would be rude not to order anything so Rahm had another beer. I drove us home in just over an hour. At some point I drove 219 kilometers per hour (135.7 mph). This is the fastest I have ever driven. The rule on autobahn is that the signs posted are suggested speeds and that when an incident occurs over 120 kph youÕr no longer insured. Right after I hit my highest speed ever a Porsche pushed me out of the left lane and then another. I eventaully only caught up to them because of some light traffic in the left lane. Burg Eltz was the most pleasant and secluded. It required a walk through the woods to get to. Marksburg Castle tour is a must if you are interested in castles. It is a completely intact castle and has furniture, torture devices and weapons. It's been a good place to do some last minute shopping and to relax. The Marc Chegaul windows create a magnificent blue lighting effect. The casino in the Hilton along the river is fun too. The prehistoric museum contained human artifacts from 100 CE to 3000 BCE. The Glokenspiel is nice too, this time we were eating breakfast while it happened. The Haufbrauhaus is an insane place. Rahm and I had dinner at a pizza place just around the corner from the main Platz in the old section. Ziegenhain: Gliders (saw) Treysa: Old town, fountain, ice cream, blown up church. If you happen to be insane enough to drive in Rome, do not look anywhere but in front while driving and whatever you do, don't blink. LichtensteinTiny. LuxembourgTiny. MonacoWe went when I was 12 years old and couldn't get into the casino. Next time I go there I will break the bank. PolandWalked into Poland from Frankfurt, Germany, with my father and Grandfather, bought a couple pewter pieces, then ate dinner in Germany with a view of Poland. We had to walk in since out rental car was not permitted into Poland. Russia
